Upcoming Woodland Wellbeing dates:

Fridays 10am-12pm – Garden Needs, 1 Radford Street, Salford M7 4NT

29th August – TOUCH:

Experience the meadow as you never have before! Barefooted and blindfolded – a safely facilitated sensory experience. Explore the wetlands, skim stones and build stone towers.

19th September – SMELL:

Although associated with Christmas, wreaths can be made any time of the year. We will sustainably pick wildflowers, exploring their individual smells, and will look for fallen branches under the trees to learn about the magic of wreath making and create one collectively.

17th October – SIGHT:

Today we will go litter picking alongside the River Irwell and will talk about the impact human activities can have on environment. We will search for signs of that impact around us. We will return to Garden Needs for a brew and cakes, and participants will be invited to make creations from recycled materials.

12th November – HEARING:

This week we will explore the imaginative and the magical. We will walk to the Witch’s Cottage, where we will make broomsticks. With our broomsticks we will sweep the leaves, clearing the space in which we will collectively create a large nature mandala. The session will end with an invitation to exchange stories, engaging in the art of storytelling.

12th December – ELEVATED:

First half of the session, from nature materials such as sticks, bark and leaves, we will build little boats, place them in the river and watch them float. The second half of the session, we will make ourselves float – but in the air. We will do so by putting ourselves up in a hammock attached to the trees, and by making a stretcher and perhaps testing it out on one of our adventurers.

9th January – SMELL:

This session we will move around Kersal Dale. At the first location, we will make sparks with flint and steel, waking up the ground layer. In the second location, we will search the herb and shrub layers to find the tinder for our second spark to jump on. In the third location, we will attempt to sustain our little fire by feeding it the dry sticks above the big bare winter canopies of the trees which open up to the sky – the smell of fire and air.
